David Warner Retirement:

Renowned batsman David Warner announced his retirement from One Day International cricket on Monday before playing his final Test match. However, he will continue to play T20 cricket for Australia. The 37-year-old opening batsman clarified that he would be available for selection if Australia needs him for the Champions Trophy in 2025.

David Warner Quits ODIs:

Explosive Australian opener David Warner made a big announcement on the first day of the new year. During a media interaction at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Monday (January 1), he revealed that he is bidding farewell to One Day International cricket. It’s worth noting that he had already decided to retire from Test cricket. The Test series against Pakistan in Sydney, starting on January 3, marks his final red-ball game.

Warner had earlier announced that the Test series against Pakistan would be his last. Cricket Australia is preparing a special farewell for him in this final Test series. Meanwhile, Warner has surprised everyone by retiring from ODIs as well. However, he mentioned that if he remains fit and Australia needs him for the Champions Trophy in 2025, he might consider a return to ODIs.

World Cup Final was his Last Match:

Before playing his last Test match at his home ground, the Sydney Cricket Ground, David Warner revealed that the World Cup final against India in November was his final match in the 50-over format. David Warner stated on Monday, “I am definitely retiring from One Day Internationals. This was something I said during the (50-over) World Cup (in 2023 in India) that win in India. It’s a huge achievement.”

If needed, I will be available:

He said, “That’s why I am announcing my retirement from these formats today, which will also give me the opportunity to play in various leagues around the world. I know the Champions Trophy will be held soon. If I continue to play good cricket in these two years and they feel they need me, I will be available for selection.”

Warner made his ODI debut in 2009:

One of the explosive batsmen in the world, David Warner has two ODI World Cup titles to his name, including the victory in the final against India in the World Cup 2023. He made his debut in ODIs against South Africa in Hobart in 2009.

Impressive Record in ODIs:

In his career, Warner played 161 ODIs, scoring 6932 runs at an average of 45.30. He registered 22 centuries and 33 half-centuries in this format. He is sixth on the list of Australian batsmen with the most runs in ODIs. He is second, after Ricky Ponting, in terms of scoring the most centuries for Australia. Ponting played 205 matches more than Warner.

Warner in Test Cricket:

Warner has played 111 Test matches so far, accumulating 8695 runs at an average of 44.58. He has 26 centuries and 36 half-centuries to his name in Test cricket. He will continue to be available for T20 cricket for Australia and hopes to represent his country in the upcoming World Cup in the West Indies and the USA in June.

Currently playing for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, Warner may also participate in T20 leagues worldwide after retiring from Tests and ODIs.
