The Tragic Moscow Attack
Several gunmen unleashed a chaotic barrage of gunfire on people at a major event venue in the Russian capital on Friday, resulting in the tragic deaths of 60 individuals and leaving over 145 others injured. According to media reports, the responsibility for the attack lies with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
The attack occurred just days after Putin’s victory.
ISIS issued a statement claiming that our fighters carried out the attack at the Crocus City Hall located outside Moscow. They have since safely returned to their positions. A fire broke out in the building during the attack. Just a few days ago, following his victory in the country’s elections, Russian President Vladimir Putin had strengthened his grip on power.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin described the attack as a “major tragedy.” Russia’s top investigative agency is probing the incident of gunfire and explosion as a terrorist attack. The Federal Security Service of Russia, the country’s top domestic security agency, stated that people died in the gunfire incident and several others were injured.

According to reports from Russian media outlets, gunfire erupted in the Crocus City Hall situated in the western part of the Russian capital. Videos posted on social media show thick black smoke rising from the building. The attack took place as a crowd gathered for a music event featuring the famous Russian rock band ‘Picnic.’ The hall can accommodate over 6,000 people.
PM Modi condemns the attack.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on Twitter, “We strongly condemn the heinous terrorist attack in Moscow. Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected families. In this time of sorrow, India stands in solidarity with the government and people of Russia.
