Sudarshan Setu Inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi
PM Narendra Modi is currently on a tour in Gujarat, where he inaugurated several development projects today (February 25, 2024). One of the significant projects among them is the Sudarshan Setu. This bridge, spanning 2.5 kilometers, is India’s longest cable-stayed bridge, connecting Okha Mainland and Bet Dwarka Island. Costing approximately 980 crores, Sudarshan Setu is also known as the Okha-Bet Dwarka Signature Bridge. It will prove to be quite essential for those visiting the Dwarkadhish Temple.
Before his two-day Gujarat tour starting Saturday (February 24), PM Narendra Modi took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Tomorrow is a special day for Gujarat’s development journey. Among the many projects to be inaugurated is the Sudarshan Setu, which will connect Okha Mainland and Bet Dwarka. This is a remarkable project that will enhance connectivity.”
Here are some key points about Sudarshan Setu:
– Sudarshan Setu will provide a new direction of connectivity by linking Okha Mainland with Bet Dwarka Island.
– It is India’s longest cable-stayed bridge, with solar panels installed on the upper sections of the footpath, generating one megawatt of electricity.
– The bridge features footpaths on both sides, each 50 meters wide.
– Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the bridge in October 2017.
– The construction of Sudarshan Setu cost 978 crores.
– The footpath on Sudarshan Setu is adorned with verses from the Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna on both sides.
– Before the construction of the Okha-Bet Dwarka Signature Bridge, pilgrims had to rely on boat transport to reach Dwarka, including the Dwarkadhish Temple.
