Absolutely fantastic news for Indian fans coming from the Australian Open Men’s Doubles! The ace Indian player Rohan Bopanna, alongside his partner Mat Ebden, clinched the title in Men’s Doubles. In a thrilling final showdown at the Australian Open, Bopanna and Ebden defeated Italy’s Simone Bolelli and Vavassori with a score of 7-6, 7-5. With this remarkable victory, Rohan Bopanna becomes the oldest player to win a Grand Slam.

Before Bopanna, the record for the oldest Grand Slam winner was held by the Netherlands’ Jean-Julien Rojer. Rojer secured the Australian Open title at the age of 40 years and 9 months.

Facing stiff competition in the final match against Simone Bolelli and Vavassori, Bopanna and Ebden pushed it to a tie-breaker. The duo did not drop a single game in the tie-breaker, and the final lasted for 1 hour and 39 minutes. Ultimately, Rohan Bopanna and Mat Ebden emerged victorious, securing the title by defeating the Italian pair.

In the earlier rounds, Bopanna and Ebden triumphed over Thomas Machac and Zhang Ze in the semifinals. The duo secured their victory with a scoreline of 6-6, 3-6, 7-6 (10-7). Following this win, Bopanna and Ebden ascended to the top spot in the Men’s Doubles world rankings.

Highlighting Bopanna’s recent achievements, it’s worth mentioning that last year, he reached the finals of the Mixed Doubles with Sania Mirza, ending up as the runner-up. Furthermore, in the 2023 US Open, Bopanna and Ebden faced defeat as a pair. Recently, Rohan Bopanna was also honored with the prestigious Padma Shri award, recognizing his contributions to the sport.
