A few hours ago, when people found out that Mamata Banerjee got injured, memories of the 2021 assembly elections in West Bengal came rushing back. Back then, election campaigning was at its peak in West Bengal. One day, during an alleged attack in Nandigram, Mamata Banerjee got injured in her leg. A photo of her sitting in a wheelchair went viral. Now, the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are approaching. Mamata’s party has announced candidates, and the campaign under her leadership has intensified.

Yesterday, participating in an event, Mamata Banerjee reached the Kalighat area of South Kolkata. That’s when she fell inside the house. The 69-year-old Mamata was taken to the hospital, where she underwent treatment.

What happened in 2021?

CM Mamata Banerjee had suffered an injury to her left leg. TMC leaders wondered how Mamata would continue, how election campaigning would happen without her? However, even from the hospital in Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee had released a video message saying that if necessary, she would campaign in a wheelchair.

The Trinamool Congress called this incident a major security lapse. Allegations were made that some ‘capable police officers’ had been removed by the Election Commission in Nandigram. Later, an investigation was conducted. The district administration termed it as a ‘crowd control lapse.’

Doctors said Mamata had a bone injury but no fracture. They also mentioned that her sodium count was low.

“I’m in a lot of pain…”

On March 14, 2021, Mamata had said in a social media post, “We will continue to fight with all our might. I am in a lot of pain right now, but I feel the pain of my people even more. In this struggle, we have suffered a lot, and we will suffer more, but we will never bow down to cowardice!” At that time, Mamata had alleged that 4-5 unknown people had attacked her.

After this incident, several graphics were created depicting Mamata with a bandaged foot, showing her with a football, and the slogan ‘Khela Hobe’ (The game will be played) gained popularity. Even after vigorous campaigning, the BJP could not shake Mamata Banerjee’s power.

Injury to Mamata’s head

There are only a few hours left before the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections. Before this, West Bengal’s CM suffered a head injury. Yesterday evening, the TMC provided information in a post that Mamata Banerjee had suffered a serious injury. Please pray for her. The party also posted pictures showing blood flowing from Banerjee’s head. Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee admitted her to the hospital. Mamata’s brother Kartik Banerjee told the media, “She fell inside the house. She was immediately taken to the hospital. Blood was flowing from her head, and she had to undergo stitches.”

Banerjee was admitted to the Woodburn Ward of the government-run SSKM Hospital in Kolkata, from where she was later discharged. West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose also visited the CM at the hospital. Besides the PM, Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Odisha have wished Banerjee a speedy recovery. State BJP President Sukanta Majumdar and State Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury have also wished Banerjee a speedy recovery.
