Farmer Protest Resume
The ongoing protests by farmers from Noida and Greater Noida have prompted increased security measures at the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border. This surge in security led to heavy traffic jams on Thursday, as reported by officials. Multiple two-wheelers and four-wheelers got stuck in the congestion, resulting in long queues of vehicles on the roads.
Authorities also informed about significant traffic jams on the Delhi-Noida expressway. They emphasized that security has been heightened particularly at the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border due to the extensive protests by farmers.
Changes have been made in the traffic arrangements, and people have been advised to avoid traveling on certain routes. A senior police officer mentioned, “Stringent security measures have been implemented at various border entry points of the national capital. No one will be allowed to violate the law.”
Security forces have already been deployed, along with heavy security personnel, to maintain law and order. Blockades have been set up in bordering areas connecting Delhi with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
According to Delhi Traffic Police, there are concerns about heavy traffic on routes linked to Sonia Vihar, DND, Chilla, Gazipur, Sabhapur, Apsara, and Loni borders on Thursday. Travelers have been urged to either postpone their journeys or plan accordingly. Ahead of the protests by farmers in Noida and Greater Noida, the Gautam Buddha Nagar Police have imposed Section 144 of the CrPC for Wednesday and Thursday.
The police have also issued traffic-related guidelines, warning travelers about possible route diversions in both cities due to the farmers’ agitation.
Since December 2023, farmer groups in Noida and Greater Noida have been protesting against the acquisition of their land by local development authorities, demanding higher compensation and developed plots in return.
