Home Minister Amit Shah On CAA

On Saturday (February 10), Home Minister Amit Shah made a significant announcement regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He mentioned that before the Lok Sabha elections, the notification for the implementation of CAA will be issued, and it will be enforced. During his visit to West Bengal last December, he claimed that nothing can stop the implementation of CAA.

According to news agency ANI, Amit Shah said, “I want to clarify that CAA will not snatch anyone’s citizenship. Its purpose is only to grant citizenship to persecuted religious minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.”

‘It’s not our promise, it’s Congress’s promise’

Amit Shah stated that it was Congress who promised to grant citizenship to persecuted minority communities from neighboring countries. He said, “During the partition when minority communities were persecuted there and wanted to come to India, Congress said come here, you will be granted citizenship.”

‘Opposition misleading the Muslim community’

The Home Minister accused the opposition of misleading the Muslim community regarding CAA. He said, “Our Muslim brothers are being misled and instigated regarding CAA. CAA is only for granting citizenship to religious minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.” He stated that the objective of the CAA introduced by the Narendra Modi government is to provide Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim immigrants, who arrived in India before December 31, 2014, from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

‘This election is development versus corruption’

Speaking about the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Home Minister said that this election is about development versus corruption. He said, “This election is not about I.N.D.I.A versus NDA. It’s about corrupt governance versus corruption-free governance. This election is about those who want to secure national security versus those who endanger national security under the guise of foreign policy.” It should be noted that after the passage of CAA by Parliament in December 2019 and its subsequent approval by the President, there were protests in various parts of the country.
