Air Ambulance Crash in Afghanistan: Investigation Underway as Indian-Origin Plane Deviates from Route
Air Ambulance Crash in Afghanistan: On Sunday, a plane crashed in the Badakhshan Khan region of Afghanistan. The Indian Civil Aviation Department issued a statement, revealing that the crashed aircraft was an air ambulance. It was en route from Thailand to Moscow and had refueled at Gaya Airport in India along the way.
According to the information available, the plane deviated from its path due to technical issues and crashed in the Jebak district of the Badakhshan Khan province in Afghanistan. The crash site is in a mountainous area. Prior to this, media in Pakistan and Afghanistan had already reported that the aircraft was of Indian origin.
The Taliban has sent a team for plane crash investigation
Amid conflicting claims about the crashed plane, Tolo News reported, citing Jawihullah Amiri, the spokesperson for the Information Department of Badakhshan, that a team has been sent to the area for the investigation. More information about the plane and the incident is expected to be available after the investigation.
The crashed plane was a small aircraft of the DF-10 model
According to the available information, the crashed aircraft in Afghanistan was a small plane of the DF-10 model. It is a small, twin-engine plane with a capacity for 6 passengers and crew members. It is operated as a charter flight or an air ambulance. The range of the DF-10 model is not very long, meaning it cannot cover a significant distance after refueling once. Therefore, it refueled at Gaya Airport in India on its way from Thailand.
Taliban claims the crashed plane was heading to Uzbekistan
While India identified the crashed plane as an aircraft from Morocco, the Taliban’s Transport and Aviation Minister, Imamuddin Ahmadi, told a reporter that the crashed plane was a special jet from Russia heading to Uzbekistan. It was being operated as an air ambulance, and due to a navigation error, it ended up in Afghanistan.
News agencies report technical failure in the plane
According to news agencies Reuters and RT, the crashed plane was a private jet from Russia, carrying 6 passengers. It had departed from India for Tashkent on Saturday evening. Due to technical issues, it deviated from its route and subsequently crashed in the Jibak and Karn Manjan districts of Badakhshan Khan.
Indian airlines avoid Afghanistan’s airspace
Since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan after 2021, Indian planes have not been flying through Afghan airspace due to security reasons. In such situations, when flying to Western countries, airlines have to take a longer route, often via Uzbekistan.
